Travelogue: New York City 4th of July

New York City has always had a special place in my heart since my father was born and raised there. He grew up in the shadow of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx then moved to Bronxville at 12. When we had a chance to go to Boston I thought that it would be a good time to take my kids to NYC and see what this great city is all about.

We visited all around the city, taking the subways and trains everywhere. Grand Central Station, Battery Park, Empire State Building, NYC Public Library, Times Square, Central Park, 5th Ave, Madison Ave, Chrysler Building, Financial District, Ground Zero and much more. A few photos will be posted on the blog from around NYC in the coming weeks.

But first, the 4th of July fireworks.

This was a great way to spend July 4th! 40,000 mortars shot off from barges on the Hudson River in 30 minutes. Quite a show! We watched from our hotel room at the W in Hoboken so we could have a backdrop of Manhattan. All these shots were actually taken through the window of our room on the 18th floor. I don't like shooting through windows for obvious reasons but they turned out nice after all. It was very impressive and unlike anything I'm used to seeing!
NYPD was very visible via sea, ground and air.
