Seth...

Seth is a Sheridan senior who will be moving on to his next stage of life at University of North Carolina in the fall. He came in last week for a mini-session in the studio and since it was somewhat warm we also went out for some shots but the wind was sooooo bad we decided to meet again next week to try and get the shots we want. So here's a sneak peek at a couple studio shots. Don't forget '09 seniors, it's not too late to get your senior photos done, whether it's an Ultimate Session you want or a mini-session.

4 Smiles....

We had a great time a couple weeks ago for an hour or so in the studio on a blustery day with four siblings. We smiled, we laughed, we jumped and we (well, just me actually) got worn out! As you can see, even Tucson the studio beagle weasled himself into a few photos. He just couldn't get enough of being with the kids. Thanks Patrick, Cameron, Sean and Hannah!

I shot the President....No not that way, or who you think..

Way back last month the Sheridan Historical Society, the Sheridan Public Library, the school system and patrons invited Fritz Klein to be a part of the the Boxley Lecture Series and speak in town. Fritz is an Abraham Lincoln impersonator that has been on the Discovery Channel, History Channel and more. It was a great evening and Fritz was fascinating. It was like looking at our greatest president in person! I meant to post these earlier but, hey, better late than never!

Sheridan schools Drama club play "Once On This Island"

I would like to draw your attention to a great play being put on by the kids of the elementary and middle schools called "Once On This Island." I watched the dress rehearsal tonight and came away impressed with the talent of the kids. This is an enjoyable musical for the whole family with great costumes and scenery. The production will be Friday thru March 15th. Mrs. Cathy Good and Mrs. Sandy Moore are the faculty "brains" behind the students. Come on out to the SMS auditorium at 7pm Friday March 13th, Saturday March 14th or 2pm on Sunday March 15th and show your support! I have photos from the dress rehearsal online at our website. If you would like to purchase one I will donate $1 of every print sale to the Drama club to help out the kids.

Thank you Sheridan Rotary Club....

Thanks to the men and women of the Sheridan Rotary Club for inviting me to speak at their meeting Tuesday evening. I enjoyed meeting everybody, the conversation and the delicious dinner! I spoke about my career in photography spanning 23 years and how I ended up with a studio in Sheridan. And I topped it off with a music video montage of some of my work. It was a great evening a good 'ol Sheridan hospitality and I appreciate it!

Thank you SABC...

Thanks to Kim Zachery and the Sheridan Adult Booster Club for hiring me to shoot the ring presentation for the 2008 State Championship Runner-Up Sheridan Blackhawk team on Tuesday night! There was a great turnout for the Basketball games and the presentation in-between the games that night. The team, coaches, cheerleaders and everybody sure has a lot to be proud of! I was talking with Chief Weir from the police department in the gym that evening and he stated something so true...it will hit these guys in a few years just what they really accomplished. So true, right now the kids are dealing with going to school, growing up, working and all the pressures of being a teen these days that I don't know if they really know what they have done. In 4 or 5 years the seniors will probably look back and say "Holy Cow!" (or something to that effect) and realize how great a team they have been a part of and just what was acheived over the past 4 years. It's really something.

Rising Stars!

My 11-old-son, Andrew, took his new digital slr camera to Rising Stars for his first photo shoot! He never really used the camera besides just a few snaps at home. I'm impressed with what he came back with! Here is a video slideshow of some of the Rising Stars shots. We have this available on a DVD with the music video and the photos for only $10 if you'd like to have a copy.

Katelin....Indiana Model

We had a commercial shoot with Katelin last week and this is a video slideshow of some of the shoot. She came from Greenfield and we knocked out several different sets in a short amount of time and she did a great job. Alayna Miller was the makeup artist and did a great job making sure Katelin was ready. We're looking forward to future jobs with both!

The Dogs...

I had both dogs in the studio the other day and couldn't resist getting a couple shots of 'em. Tucson the beagle is the one you see almost every day with me at work. He was a stray that adopted us over 4 years ago. We think he is 8-10 years old. Tucson is a real sweet dog that gets along with everybody. Bisbee is now around 11 weeks old and cute as a button. Also very awnry! He's a Jack Russel Terrier that we adopted from the Pals for Paws rescue by Kokomo. He is in the studio every now and then.

Sheridan Girls Varsity Basketball

Congratulations to the Lady Blackhawks for their 69-55 win over Clinton Central Thursday night! They closed out the season with a great 12-8 record. I was really impressed with the intensity of play that the girls showed! The last basketball game that I shot was in 1986. Wow. That was 23 years ago! Back in the day of Tri-X black and white film pushed to 3200 ASA. (yes, ASA not ISO) I can't believe it's been that long but you just don't shoot bball in the corporate world. So it was a different experience for me. Digital, Nikon D3 rated at 6400 ISO. N0 souping film after the game. No printing wet negatives. Times have changed! I will be shooting the boys varsity next Thursday and look forward to that. We have a selection of shots over on our website. Here are just a few samples.

New pup in the studio...

Wow, it has been since Christmas Eve that we posted on the blog here! After taking a couple weeks off for God, family, friends and renewal we came back to the studio and had a busy couple weeks! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season this year and haven't broken too many New Years resolutions already.

Starting tomorrow, Jan 20th, we will have a new visitor in the studio every now and then. His name is Bisbee (named after the southern Arizona town) and he is an 8 week old Jack Russell Terrier. Bisbee came from the Pals for Paws rescue outside of Kokomo and he is ALL Jack Russell! I can see that he will be high spirited, full of energy and looking for trouble just like a Jack is suppossed to be.

Some of you know that we had a Jack Russell before. Her name was Chelsea and we had to put her down over the summer when she was 16 years old. She was Tucson's (also named after the Arizona city) buddy and he has been a little lost since she has passed. So now our Beagle has a buddy to hang with. Or so we hope. He is still getting used to having a little wad of pure muscle and attitude following him around the house but he is getting better every day. And he hasn't growled or snapped once at Bisbee.

Well anyway, Tucson will still be around just like always but every now and then we will have Bisbee in studio for the day too. Stop on by and say hi!

Merry Christmas to all!

1972, love the pants man.

1967, always well dressed! :^)

Merry Christmas to all our friends of the studio! Christmas is a special time of year that often gets lost in the hustle and bustle of the season. First and foremost, we must remember that we are celebrating Jesus' birth. Without our Lord and Savior, where would we be?

I always get nostalgic at this time of year. I love history and nostalgia anyway but Christmas is very cool in that respect. That is one of many reasons I am happy to be on Main Street in Sheridan. Being in the studio for just a little bit with my son today, Christmas Eve, and seeing people on Main St with all the old buildings and the Christmas decorations reminded me of a time past. Luckily we still have vestiges of that in our town and our great country.

This is a special time for the children and I am reminded of that with the boundless enthusiasm and anticipation from my own children. I can remember back to my childhood and the memories of Christmas Eve and Christmas day with my parents. It's a shame I don't have either of my parents around anymore but to know they are celebrating in Heaven makes it right. What better place to be for Christmas than with Jesus! We lost my father 2 years ago just before Christmas and had his service just after Christmas. But I still have warm feelings for that year, even though it was tough, because I knew where he was. Sitting in church on Christmas Eve and listening to Steve Quinn belt out O' Holy Night and I know both the Lord and my father were there. Wow. Tough time but a great memory.

What I am getting at is that Christmas is a time of memories. Maybe the times might be tough but God won't give us anything we can't handle. Every year we will make memories. And we need to make them with our kids too. No matter how old they are. I've added a few old photos to the blog here from my childhood for your amusement. I was a sharp dresser! 1967 and 1972. I can remember these days still. The excitement, the happiness, the comfort of family. Now go forth, make memories, enjoy what God has given you, give back, and work towards and happy and prosperous 2009. May God Bless you all.

Thanks to our Corporate Clients....

Yes, we shoot a lot more than portraiture here at our studio on Main Street in Sheridan. Sauter Photography actually has a worldwide reach from our humble little town in the Midwest.

I haven't mentioned any corporate clients in the blog since we started this so I will list some we have worked with over the past couple months.

It's been a busy couple months with corporate sales and I'd like to thank some of the companies that have done business with us recently. We have had quite a cross-section of clients ranging from insurance companies, marketing companies, retail products manufacturers to a couple Christian book publishers (which I love to see my work used in.)

Thanks to The Christian Institute in the United Kingdom for purchasing a photo of my son (he's a great model and has appeared in several publications and advertisements) for the cover of an information book on child protection laws! The Bob Jones University Press has purchased a photo of a coal train that will possibly be a book cover also. Broken Voices, a christian outreach group that is traveling across the country working on a film titled "Anthem" also purchased art from us.

Some overseas companies include; Eurl TRAIT d'UNIONS , a French telecommunications company that we have sold work to. Also Wunderman which is a worldwide marketing company. Advance Materials in the UK; Mandalina, a marketing company in Turkey; Offentliche Verischerungen Oldenburg, a German insurance company; MediaPool, a London video production company; Reed Elsevier, a worldwide information and workflow solutions company and publisher with London, Amsterdam and NYC offices; ProDirect Marketing in France and Alquima Ediciones, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico.

US recent additions include FCI Marketing, Inc for their Black Jack Tire Repair brand; Printing Partners, LLC; and SAVE Technologies... all becoming customers in the past 2 months.

Also since October we have added TDCI, Inc in Columbus Ohio; Bon-Aire Industries in Boise, Idaho; Myer-Ziemke Insurance Agency in Ohio, Creativo Productions in California, Zap Mold in Minnesota and Rusty Brick Service, a marketing firm in New York.

I'd like to thank the companies that saw value in our work over the past two months. We look forward to a productive 2009 providing imaging to our corporate clients.

Gradys on a calendar!

It's almost time for the release of the Sheridan Basketball calendar by Tradition Calendars! John Spear is the man behind the calendars and he does a great job. (John also writes the Football stories for SheridanNews.net. I'm not sure if he's doing the same for basketball but I hope so!) John wanted to put a player on the calendar like we did with the football calendar when we put Nick Zachery on. I thought of Sheridan's center Grady Roaten right away. We got some great shots for his Senior Photos in the gym so I showed them to John and we got an ad put together. Grady is a great young man and I'm glad to have him on our ad for the calendar and to represent Sheridan on the calendar. The calendars should be out by next Friday and you will start seeing them around town.

Congrats to Brent....

The other day I had a friend and business associate in the studio and we were chatting. He asked if I shot Brent Humes senior photos and I said I did. He then said "you know he won the Phil N Eskew Mental Attitude Award don't you?" At that point I realized I hadn't mentioned it on my blog! Yep, I knew. I heard it announced down at Lucas Oil Stadium after the game. I have to say I'm not surprised! This is really quite an honor to get this award out of all the young men playing football in 1A in our state. And Brent deserved it.

Brent played on both sides in the games as running back and linebacker in addition to lettering in wrestling and track. He is a four-year Vice President of his class, four year member of the student council, three year member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club president. He also is a peer for the Sheridan school system working with third grade kids. He is the eight Sheridan player to win the award over the years.

Congratulations to Brent. The Sheridan community can be very proud!
